What I Offer

Psychotherapy

Also known as talk therapy, psychotherapy involves weekly sessions where we explore your past and present experiences to gain insight into thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The process will begin with an intake and development of a treatment plan based on your goals for therapy. We will then meet weekly for 50-minute sessions at a day and time that works for you.

Couples Counseling

A collaborative process with you and your romantic partner(s), couples or relationship therapy can help facilitate better communication and more authentic ways of relating to each other. Learn how challenging dynamics are often related to early childhood attachment experiences, and how to build a more secure attachment. Explore your needs, desires, feelings, and boundaries in a safe container.

Expressive Arts Therapy

The expressive arts - music, movement, writing, drama, and visual art - are a means of entering our unconscious mind to access new routes of healing. Sometimes we don’t have the words to describe our experiences but the wisdom is always within us. No formal background in the arts is required as this approach focuses on the creative process rather than the end product.

Letter Writing

I can write letters that are needed to support medical transition and gender-affirming care procedures. This can typically be completed in one session. I charge a flat fee of $150 for this service. I offer a sliding scale for BIPOC starting at $120.

Approach

Mary practices from the following theoretical perspectives:

  • Narrative Therapy - separating the person from their problem to get some distance and a new perspective. Interrogating and transforming the stories we tell ourselves about our lives and experiences.

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - the relational process between therapist and client. Assists in self-reflection, self-examination, and insight especially into relationships with other people and the world at large.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) - tools for mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness/communication.

  • Humanistic/Person-Centered Therapy - a collaborative approach that respects the client as the expert of their own experience. Posits that each person has the innate power to heal and strengths to draw upon in service of self-actualization.

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy - a method of couples therapy based in attachment theory. Explores how early childhood experiences impact our ways of relating to facilitate deeper, more empathetic connections in current relationships.
